Maricel Maffini

Maricel V. Maffini is a senior officer for Pew's food additives project. Maffini was most recently a research assistant professor at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston where she conducted research on breast cancer and the developmental origin of diseases.

She has served as the scientific advisor to the Breast Cancer Fund and the Great Neck Breast Cancer Coalition and as an ad-hoc advisor to Clean Water Action of Massachusetts. She has provided expert testimony to the legislative committees in Massachusetts, Maine, and Suffolk County (NY), as well as to the Boston City Council and the National Toxicology Program on the effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals on breast development and cancer.

Maffini is the author of many scientific articles and book chapters, including “Enhancing FDA’s Evaluation of Science to Ensure Chemicals Added to Human Food Are Safe: Workshop Proceedings,” “Bisphenol-A and the Great Divide: A Review of Controversies in the Field of Endocrine Disruption,” and “Endocrine Disruptors and Reproductive Health: The Case of Bisphenol A.”

Maricel Maffini holds a bachelor’s degree in laboratory medicine and a doctorate degree in biological sciences with a focus on physiology and pathology, both from the Universidad Nacional del Litoral, Argentina. She did her post-doctoral training at Tufts University School of Medicine.
